Can You Be a Devout Christian and Believe in Crystals and Chakras?
Faith, gemstones, chakras and the Bible

✝️💎 HOW CAN YOU BE A DEVOUT CHRISTIAN AND BELIEVE IN CRYSTALS AND CHAKRAS?
I get asked this more than you'd probably think.
Apparently, somewhere along the line, owning an Amethyst and talking about chakras became incompatible with loving God. I don't see it that way at all.
First things first: I don't worship crystals. I don't pray to crystals. I don't believe a lump of Rose Quartz is God, replaces God, or has somehow elbowed Jesus out of the way. My faith is in God. Full stop.
What I find quite interesting is how often people tell me crystals are somehow "un-Christian" when the Bible itself is absolutely FULL of precious stones.
💎 Precious Stones Are Throughout the Bible
In Exodus, God actually instructs that the breastpiece worn by the high priest should contain twelve precious stones, including carnelian, emerald, lapis lazuli, agate, amethyst, topaz, onyx and jasper, each representing one of the tribes of Israel.
These weren't tucked away as something dark or forbidden — they formed part of something sacred.
Amethyst is literally there in Exodus.
Then jump right to Revelation and the description of the New Jerusalem. Its foundations are decorated with precious stones — jasper, sapphire, agate, emerald, onyx, carnelian, topaz, amethyst and more.
If gemstones themselves were evil, that would be a slightly odd choice of decorating materials for the holy city. 😏
Isaiah uses the same beautiful imagery when God promises restoration to an afflicted people: foundations of precious stones, turquoise, lapis lazuli, rubies and sparkling jewels.
Revelation even describes the throne of God using the appearance of jasper, ruby and emerald.
Ezekiel also refers to precious stones in Eden — carnelian, emerald, topaz, onyx, jasper, lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl.
So no, I can't find the bit where God apparently made all these extraordinary minerals, filled Scripture with them, placed them in sacred imagery and then said:
"Georgia, whatever you do, don't enjoy the Amethyst." 😂
🌿 God's Creation and My Christian Faith
Genesis says that when God looked at what He had created, He saw that it was "very good."
For me, crystals belong to creation.
I can admire them, hold them during prayer or reflection, associate one with an intention, or use one as a physical reminder to slow down, ground myself, be compassionate or protect my boundaries without believing that the stone is my god.
There's an important distinction here, though. The fact that gemstones appear in Scripture doesn't automatically mean the Bible endorses crystal healing or attributes special healing powers to stones.
What it does show is that precious stones themselves are not inherently evil, and that their beauty and symbolism have a place within biblical imagery.
I can appreciate something God created without worshipping it.
🌈 What About Chakras? Isn't That a Different Religion?
And then there are chakras, which is where the conversation gets more interesting.
I'm not going to rewrite history to make my beliefs tidier.
The word chakra is Sanskrit, and the chakra system comes from Indian yogic and Tantric spiritual traditions.
Historically, chakras were understood as centres within a "subtle body", and different traditions didn't even always use the exact same number or system.
The familiar seven-chakra model developed within those traditions; it isn't a word or formal system taught in the Bible.
Read about the history of chakras
So when somebody tells me, "The seven churches in Revelation are definitely the seven chakras," I'm interested in the symbolism, but I wouldn't present that as biblical fact.
The same goes for claims that Scripture secretly describes Kundalini travelling up the spine into the pineal gland.
That's a spiritual interpretation, not something the biblical text actually says.
And I don't need it to say that.
✝️ My Body Is a Temple of the Holy Spirit
The Bible tells me that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.
I can therefore be interested in my body, breathing, stillness, emotions, physical tension, meditation and where I seem to hold stress without needing to turn that into another religion.
When I work with chakras, I use them as a framework for intention and wellbeing.
The Root Chakra represents grounding and safety.
The Heart Chakra gives me a language for compassion.
The Throat Chakra reminds me of voice and expression.
The Third Eye Chakra gives me a focus for reflection and intuition.
I can massage somebody's shoulders while encouraging them to breathe and let go of tension without secretly conducting a pagan conversion behind the massage couch. 😂
For me, this is about relaxation, mindfulness, intention and understanding how we experience stress and emotions.
I'm not claiming that chakras are scientifically established physical structures, or that crystals can diagnose or cure medical conditions.
I'm simply explaining how I personally use these traditions and their symbolism as part of my approach to holistic wellbeing.
🙏 Where I Draw the Line as a Christian
What would conflict with my Christian faith is worshipping something else as God, calling on spirits, trying to tell the future through divination, consulting the dead or believing an object has authority above God.
Scripture is quite explicit about divination, sorcery, mediums and consulting the dead.
That's an important distinction, and pretending those passages don't exist wouldn't be honest either.
I also recognise that Christians interpret the spiritual implications of chakra practices differently. Some consider any involvement incompatible with Christianity, while others distinguish between religious worship and using chakra symbolism for reflection or relaxation.
I respect that people will reach different conclusions according to their faith and conscience.
But holding a crystal and saying:
"God, help me feel grounded today,"
is very different in my mind from saying:
"Hematite, you are now the supreme spiritual authority over my life."
Mine is still a Christian prayer.
The stone is a stone.
The intention is mine.
God is God.
💗 Faith, Crystals and Chakras — My Final Thoughts
Maybe that's the simplest answer to the question.
I can believe that God created an extraordinary natural world, appreciate the symbolism and beauty of crystals within it, use massage, oils, meditation and chakra concepts to help me focus on different aspects of my wellbeing, and still be completely clear about where my faith sits.
I don't need to fear God's creation in order to worship its Creator.
And I certainly don't think God is up there panicking because I've got a Rose Quartz in my bra. 💗😂
Faith and curiosity are not opposites. For me, everything comes back to intention, discernment and knowing exactly who I worship.
With love,
